If you want the best value for your $2 both in terms of quantity and taste, buy these $2 taster items:
5. Open-faced meatball sandwich on focaccia bread from Austriano's Italian in the Avenue.
These tasty bite sized sandwiches are a decent value. Two years ago it used to be 2 meatballs, but last year they went to one meatball cut in half. Either way, it's tasty and a decent value for your $2.
$2 taster size of beer battered bacon wrapped hot dog.
Full sized portion of beer battered bacon wrapped hot dog.
4. Taste of Beer battered bacon wrapped hot dog.
It's wrapped in bacon, do I need to say anything more? Heck, if they wrapped a brussel sprout in bacon, people would eat it, like it, and come back for more. The $2 taster portion is about 1/4 of a full portion so a pretty respectable offering.
3. Mini funnel cake from Pennsylvania Dutch Funnel Cake in Infield.
Okay, I cheated a bit. My boys inhaled ate the mini funnel cake before I could get my camera out so I bought another one, this time a regular sized funnel cake. The only difference between the $2 taster and the regular are the whipped bavarian cream, chocolate sauce and size. The mini is about 4 inches and the regular is about 6 or 7.
But you get the idea and what's a fair without funnel cake?
2. 1/2 Texas donut from Texas Donut in Plaza de Mexico.
Picture this donut less and take away the part that's already been eaten and a few extra bites and you've got yourself 1/2 a Texas Donut. And for a better idea of the size of this donut…
Yes, the Texas donut at the San Diego Fair is almost as big as my son's head. I guess it's true what they say, everything is bigger in Texas, of course we're in California…
And the Number 1 Best of the $2 Tuesday Taste of the Fair and what I bought several of and plan on eating all day on July 3rd at the last $2 Tuesday Taste of the Fair…
1. Buffalo Chicken Slider with fries from the Del Mar Diner in Plaza de Mexico, next to Texas Donut.
This is a 3 inch Buffalo Chicken Slider sandwich with a handful of garlic fries for only $2. This by far is the best $2 value at the San Diego Fair. Tasty white meat buffalo chicken slider with Frank's Red Hot sauce. YUM! It also comes with lettuce, tomato and ranch but I passed on those.
The regular portion for $6 is two buffalo chicken sliders. So for 1/3 the price you get more since fries are included. Can you tell which $2 taster I'll be eating first?
Were we spot on or did we miss any other good value $2 Tasters?
