Competitive Sporting Events

All sports events are held at Tamarack State Beach, and are marked and timed.
A 5K Low Tide Run, a 5K Low Tide Walk, and a Kids 1-Mile Fun Run on the hard sand. (Online registration now available.) Start Times: 5K Run 8 a.m., 5K Walk 8:15 a.m., Kids Run 9:45 a.m.
Beach Triathlon (run, swim, paddle SUP or Prone): (Online registration now available.) Start Time: 10:30 a.m.
Beach Duathlons (run/swim or run/SUP or Prone): (Online registration now available.) Start Time: 10:30 a.m.
Paddleboard Races (SUP or Prone): Presented in part by Legends SUP of Carlsbad and Victory Koredry of Huntington Beach (Online registration now available.)
* 6 Mile with water start & water finish 1000 yards off shore. Start Time: 9 a.m.
* 1-Mile in a buoyed rectangle with beach start and finish. Start Time: 9:30 a.m.
* SUP CROSS RACE battling the break several times just yards off shore! Start Time: noon.
Ocean Swim-1 Mile: (Online registration now available.) Start Time: 8:10 a.m.
Pro & Amateur Surf Contest: Presented by SurfRide (Online registration now available.) Start Time: 8 a.m.—goes until 3:30 p.m.
Zumba-thon: Join a Zumba fitness party on the sand led by local instructors. (Online registration now available.) Two Sessions: Start Times: 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Free Organized Beach Activities: Beach volleyball, kite flying, face painting, and hula hoops near Lifeguard Station 36, Surf Clinics and more at Frazee Beach, with exhibitors everywhere.
“Hands Across the Beach”: Come show your environmental support with Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall and city representatives by participating in a linking of hands across one mile of Carlsbad shoreline at noon.
Beach Cleanup: An all-day massive beach cleanup, organized and supported by California State Parks and Surfrider Foundation, provides anyone the opportunity to be of service to the community. Check-In at Tamarack Beach.
Art Seaside: U.S. Open Champion Archisand continues to be the event’s featured artisan group, returning to create another gigantic sand sculpture to reflect the day’s theme. Find them and other artists at Frazee Beach.
Beach & Ocean Stewardship: Interactive educational booths encourage and teach environmental stewardship. More than 30 organizations provide fun, hands-on activities and information for children and adults—Frazee to Tamarack
Health & Safety Expo: Near Lifeguard Stations 35 & 36, enjoy Sports Therapy with a warm up, massage, or cool down from EZIA professionals. CA State Parks Jr. Lifeguards provide ways to stay safe in the water, while other pros explain how to get the most from your outdoor exercise, and how to protect your skin against the elements.
Live Entertainment: Performance stages between Lifeguard Stations 36 & 37 provide spectacular live entertainment all day, headlined by notable local artists such as Jerome Dawson & Wazabe Blue, Verua Tahiti e’, and CORE STP Tribute Band. Up top on the green lawn at Pine Avenue watch electric performances by drum and percussion group Naruwan Taiko. Near the Lifeguard Station on the sand enjoy world rhythm and dance from Ibra Fall People .
